Jargon Buster
You may not of heard of a pocket or a pre-fold, or even an AIO or a booster, an insert or a soaker? CSP? Confused? Does any of this mean anything to you? If yes, I am assuming you are already a cloth user or maybe know someone that is.
If you have absolutely no idea what any of those words mean and just feel confuzzled! Then this section is for you.
These are some of the words you may come across while using our site, and their terminology;
Reusable nappy - a fabric nappy you can wash.
Reusable wipes - pieces of soft cloth (usually terry/fleece/bv) used to clean babies bum.
Pocket - a nappy that has a waterproof outer and soft inner, and a pocket inside to place your absorbent material into.
Shaped - a nappy that is shaped to fit baby, made up of several absorbent layers and either fastened with a nappy nippa, velcro or poppers. Requires a waterproof wrap.
Pre-fold - a flat piece of fabric which you fold, usually a rectangle, with 3 sections, the centre one has several layers of absorbency, 2 outer sections slightly less. Requires a waterproof wrap.
Terry - a square flat piece of terry fabric which you fold. Requires a waterproof wrap
Fitted - a nappy that usually has elasticated leg gussets, waistband and built in fasteners (ie velcro). Requires waterproof wrap.
AIO/AI2 - All-in-one, a nappy with a waterproof outer sewn onto an absorbent inner. Sometimes to reduce drying time, the absorbent part is detatchable via poppers, these are AI2.
2 parters - These are just the overall name for any nappy requiring a seperate wrap.
Wraps - a waterproof cover for nappies. Can also come covered in soft to the touch outers such as fleece or minkee, or even wool nappy covers.
PUL - Polyurethane Laminate, a soft waterproof backing for nappies and wraps.
Nappi Nippa - a 3 way gripper that grips onto your nappy fabric, to hold it together.
Inserts - a shaped piece of material made up of several layers of absorbent fabrics to place into nappy.
Boosters - Slightly thinner piece of material to place into nappy to boost absorbency, for heavy wetters or night times.
Soakers - Fleece or wool handknitted nappy covers, great for nappy rash
Hemp - A very absorbent natural material, increases in absorbency with every wash (full absorbency reached at approx 10 washes)
Bamboo - a soft natural material, highly absorbent, great as additional booster in your nappy
Microfibre - Extremely quick drying slim material, relatively absorbent. remains soft and fluffy wash after wash.
Fleece topped - a booster or insert topped with soft fleece to draw urine away from baby's skin..
Fleece lined - a nappy which is lined inside with fleece for softness and dryness against babies bum.
Longies - Handknitted trousers to use as a cloth nappy cover, evaporates the urine out keeping baby extremely dry and with a peachy bottom!
Crops - As above but mid length trousers
Boardies - As above but long shorts
Shorties - as above but shorts
Cloth san Pro (CSP) - Sanitary protection for mum! Far superior to disposable scratchy sanitary towels.
