What do I need?
First and foremost, get yourself clued up on all the cloth nappy terms! It can be mind boggling to some, so please check out our terminology link!
Here is a suggestions list we have personally put together, to help you get a clearer idea of what you may need to full time cloth your baby.
I will list the basics that you will need to get started, and as you learn more about them, you might wish to add to your collection or even reduce it, or change things according to your baby's needs. This list will vary hugely on how much your baby wets, whether they are a heavy wetter or lighter, which styles you choose to go for ect, but if you take these lists a guide, it should help you to get started. I have been as accurate as possible and as realistic as possible. *In a perfect world, you would never have an emergency and all your nappies would be washed and dried perfectly everytime, but in the real world, we have things that 'crop up' such as poorly children (meaning frequent nappy changes!) and sometimes there's just no time for washing, meaning we need back up's!* So I have tried to bare this in mind on your behalf and been generous with what you may need. I have also including an estimated* price guide at the end of each list.
List 1 is based on full time pocket nappy use -
- 18 pocket nappies (based on a 2-3 day wash system) birth to potty
- 18 inserts (nappies, if new, should come with inserts so you wouldn't need to buy these, please double check before you buy your nappies)
- At least an extra 10 boosters (hemp, bamboo, microterry/microfibre)
- 15-20 fleece or minky liners (optional if prefered)
- A wetbag for storage
Approx - £300.00*
A note about full time pocket use:
Pocket nappies are very very practical and one of the easiest way to cloth bum your baby, but, for nightimes, they are not always the most reliable if not very well boosted up with hemp or bamboo and if you are not practiced at doing this. I always advise having at least one fitted nappy, plus wrap, in the house, as back up for nights.
List 2 is based on full time 2 part use (nappy and wrap)
List 2-
- 18 fitted/.shaped/terry/prefold nappies
- 7 waterproof wraps, fleece wraps or wool covers
- A Nappi Nippa if using terry nappies or nippa nappies
- 10-12 boosters (hemp, bamboo, terry)
- 18 fleece or minky liners (very important if using these type of nappies, to keep baby's bottom dry)
- A wetbag for storage
Approx - £250.00*
3rd list on a mixture of the two.
List 3-
- 12-14 pockets nappies for day use (with inserts)
- 3 fitted/shaped/terry for nights or day
- 3 wraps or wool covers
- 10-15 boosters (hemp, bamboo, terry, microfibre)
- 10 fleece/minky liners
- A bucket with a lid
£250.00*
Please note-
These lists are just for guidance only. Everyone's nappy needs are different and you may need slightly more or less than I have recommended here.
*Prices are based on a selection of various nappies (such as wonderoo's and Little lambs) and various wraps (such as nature babies) and minkee liners.. Prices do vary depending on nappy choice.. Price can be alot higher if using more expensive nappies or full time wool use.
